Broadcast Support Technician

Thistle Communication is currently interviewing candidates for a full time broadcast technician position to support our day to day production operations.


Position overview

The Broadcast Support Technician will support the day to day operation of our broadcast production needs in the office and in the field.  This technician will train with our broadcast team to master our production trucks, satellite trucks and mobile production flypacks. The ideal candidate already has experience working in a broadcast facility or studio and is familiar with HD production workflow.  The Broadcast Support Technician will proactively identify potential issues and work collaboratively with the IT/Operations/Production teams and be willing to assist other engineering team members on projects, troubleshooting and repairing technical problems. The Broadcast Support Technician will be available on-call 24/7 on a rotating basis, must be able to read and understand schematic drawings and have a good understanding of video/audio signal formats as well as computers and network systems. Experience with transmission via satellite and fiber optics are a plus.

Job responsibilities

  • Train in the field with current engineering staff to master our production trucks, satellite trucks and flypacks with the ultimate goal of becoming a lead broadcast engineer

  • Troubleshoot computer and hardware issues

  • Identify potential threats to PC/MAC hardware, rectify issues and educate end users on detection and prevention

  • Engineer our production trucks/mobile flypacks and support day to day show demands

Job requirements

  • Provide exemplary customer service to clients, staff and freelancers

  • Respond to engineering emergencies as needed

  • Work weekends, days and evenings as our production schedule dictates

  • Communicate effectively with excellent speaking & writing skills

  • Must be able to earn and maintain a class B CDL and be able to drive company vehicles as needed

  • Have flexibility with schedule and be able to travel for meetings, jobs & projects

  • Report day to day to our field shop in Dracut, MA

  • Clean driving record

Minimum qualifications

  • Knowledge & experience with various technologies including, but not limited to:

  • Windows/Mac OS

  • Video/audio routers, switchers, audio consoles, camera systems, playback/server systems, graphic systems

  • Technical/Associates/Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Video/Audio Production, or related field.

  • Experience with networking hardware, routers, switches, access points is a plus

Physical job requirements

  • Driving a CDL class B vehicle, maintaining a medical card, passing random drug screens

  • Working long shifts as needed
